Together for Science
Science is grounded in facts and substantiated arguments. Science and technology contribute significantly to the prosperity of society as well as to education and health care, although much remains to be done to reduce existing global inequalities. Considering the enormity of challenges our world will face in the near future, we need solutions that can only be envisioned and implemented jointly by science and society.
The current political climate, not only in the United States, gives us cause for concern. The falsification and defamation of facts for ideological purposes threaten not only science, but also the basis of democracy.
With the Vienna March for Science on Saturday, April 22, 2017, we call upon you to protect, strengthen, and celebrate the democratic foundations of science. We are not alone in this mission: 400 near-simultaneous demonstrations the world over prove that science and society are both willing to work towards an open-minded future.
The Vienna March for Science is jointly organized by the independent association „Wien Wissen“ (Knowledge Vienna) and scientists, educators, and students. Meeting point is on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1.00pm at Sigmund-Freud-Park between Votive Church and the University of Vienna. Details on route and final event may be found here in our blog.
